International Year of Astronomy

Poster by Lindsay Archibald

On January 10, 2009, the Gladstone Hotel's ballroom was packed for the Treehouse Group's launch party for the International Year of Astronomy. Scientists and laypeople alike celebrated with the help of medieval musicians Sine Nomine, jazz singer (and University of Guelph physics professor) Diane Nalini, SkyNews Magazine, science journalist Ivan Semeniuk, and Ray Jayawardhana, the man behind the astronomy banners on the TTC. The night ended off with a rousing rendition of Monty Python’s Universe Song, sung by kinetic sculpture artist Russell Zeid, fresh from celebrating his 50th trip around the Sun.
